The City of Hayward is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Community Service Officer (Jailer). This role is primarily assigned to the jail facility and plays a vital part in managing detention operations. Join our team and contribute to the safety and well-being of our community.
Role & Responsibilities
As a Community Service Officer (CSO) at the Hayward Police Department, you will work under the supervision of the Jail Supervisor, focusing primarily on jail operations. You will handle the processing, care, and control of prisoners during their confinement at the police department. Additionally, CSOs may receive temporary special assignments related to non-sworn police duties such as reporting, traffic control, licensing, and other administrative functions.
Prisoner Processing: Handle booking, searching, and managing prisoners, ensuring their care and control during confinement.
Facility Operations: Conduct property inventory, medical screening, and prisoner classification.
Transportation: Transport prisoners to court or other facilities as required.
Administrative Duties: Prepare documentation, maintain records, and respond to public inquiries.
Temporary Assignments: May perform non-sworn police duties on a temporary basis, such as traffic control and enforcing parking regulations.
Located in the Support Services Division, our Board of Corrections certified Type I jail operates 24/7, housing up to 30 prisoners. The facility processes all arrests in Hayward and by contract for other agencies, and also handles registrant processing and public fingerprinting.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
One (1) year of experience working in a jail facility and completion of the Basic Correction Officer Core Course by the California Board of Corrections Standards and Training.
OR
Possession of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Academy Certificate. Please attach a copy of your POST Basic Academy Certificate by the application deadline to be considered.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Licensing:
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.
Probationary Period: One (1) year
