Position Overview

The Jail Supervisor oversees jail operations and staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and assigning work to jail personnel

  • Training staff in jail operations and safety

  • Preparing reports on prisoner behavior

  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures

  • Communicating effectively with staff and other departments

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties as a jailer in a department similar to the Hayward Police Department.

  • Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

  • Licenses and Certificates:

    • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license at time of appointment.

    • Must possess a Basic Corrections Officer Academy Certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy.

    • Must possess or obtain, during the probationary, certificates for the "Correction Officer Supervisor Course" issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or the Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course.

Job-Related Testing (1-Day Process)

Schedule:

  • 8:30 AM: Check-in begins (bring photo ID)

  • 9:00 – 11:00 AM: Physical Agility Exam (WSTB) + 1.5-mile run

  • 11:30 AM – 2:45 PM: PELLETB written exam

OR

Submit valid WSTB and/or NTN scores (dated within 12 months) instead.

Step 5

Eligible List

Qualified candidates will be placed on a ranked list for potential hire.

Step 6

Background Investigation

Includes fingerprinting, credit/criminal check, drug test, polygraph, and psychological/medical exams.
