Role & Responsibilities

As an Animal Care Attendant, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the Animal Services Shelter. Your responsibilities will include cleaning and maintaining animal facilities, caring for and feeding animals, assisting the public with adoptions, and performing humane euthanasia when necessary.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Animal Care: Feed, care for, evaluate behavior, adopt, redeem, and perform euthanasia on impounded animals.

  • Animal Intake: Receive animals at the shelter, ensuring sick animals are isolated from healthy ones.

  • Medical Tasks: Vaccinate animals upon intake and administer medicine under veterinary guidance.

  • Public Assistance: Respond to public inquiries about animal breeds, temperament, and adoptions, providing advice on proper care and treatment.

  • Facility Maintenance: Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels and related areas; perform dishwashing and laundry tasks.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain a computerized log of all animals at the shelter.

  • Health Monitoring: Report any animals showing signs of illness or communicable disease.

  • Inventory Management: Maintain supplies of food, medicines, and controlled drugs, completing necessary documentation.

  • Volunteer Supervision: Assist in supervising volunteers.

  • Physical Tasks: Lift and handle animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.

  • Additional Duties: Perform related tasks as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience:

  • Six (6) months of experience involving customer contact and six (6) months of experience in handling animals.

Education:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or high school equivalency.

Licensing:

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Care and feeding of animals.

Probationary Period: One (1) years
