About the Reserve Bureau

The Hayward Police Reserve Bureau is a dedicated volunteer organization that plays a vital role in supporting the Hayward Police Department. Our Reserve Officers complement full-time officers by assisting with various duties, including:

  • Large Event Assistance: Providing support and security during significant public gatherings.

  • Traffic Control: Managing and directing traffic to ensure public safety.

  • Serving Arrest Warrants: Assisting in the execution of arrest warrants.

  • Compliance Audits: Conducting random audits for compliance with sex offender registrants.

  • Supplementary Duties: Enhancing daily activities performed by regular sworn beat officers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Background Check: Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation.

  • Polygraph Test: Complete and pass a polygraph examination.

  • Medical Evaluation: Undergo and pass a thorough medical examination.

  • Psychological Evaluation: Complete and pass a psychological assessment.

  • Training: Graduate from a POST-certified academy program and complete the Hayward Police Department’s Field Training Program.
